Syphilis
Syphilis is a STI that when left untreated can cause serious health problems. Infection develops in stages (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary). Each stage can have different signs and symptoms.
Symptoms
Without proper treatment, syphilis, which is classified as a sexually transmitted infection (STI), may lead to major health complications. The progression of an infection may be broken down into four stages: primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary. There may be a variety of indications and symptoms associated with each stage.
How do you get it?
During oral, anal, or vaginal intercourse, you risk contracting syphilis if you come into close touch with a syphilis sore.
An unborn child can get syphilis from a mother who is infected with the infection.
Syphilis cannot be acquired by casual contact with things like the following:
toilet seats
doorknobs
swimming pools
hot tubs
bathtubs
How do you protect yourself?
To completely avoid STIs, one must abstain from vaginal, anal, and oral intercourse. If you are sexually active, you can reduce your risk of contracting syphilis by taking the following precautions:
Being in a long-term monogamous relationship with a companion who has been tested for syphilis and does not have it.
Using condoms properly every time you have sexual intercourse.
By preventing contact with a lesion, condoms prevent the transmission of syphilis. Sometimes sores develop in locations that are not protected by a condom. These lesions can still transmit syphilis through contact.
